Opera in a quarry

Classics reinterpreted.

Since 1996, the Quarry of St. Margarethen in Europe has been the predominant meeting point for the international opera lovers. Offering the popular and high-grade opera productions with high-quality appeal, festivals are equally attractive both for demanding visitors as well as for international opera stars and music greats.

Zauberflöte

To build on the remarkable success of recent years, the focus in the production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Zauberflöte in 2019 has mainly been laid on storytelling. Under the direction of Cornelius Obonya and Carolin Pienko, Media Apparat makes probably the most popular and well-known opera with completely new images to shine. At the center of the production is the cloud tunnel, a fantastic formation of giant balls created by the stage designer Raimund Bauer. The famous scenes of fire and water are impressively placed in this specific setup via exact projection mappings.

Tosca

During the performances of the opera Tosca in the year 2015, Media Apparat was responsible for the production of the visual content for over 340 m2 of LED screens on stage. Special challenge was to produce the very comprehensive content for the entire duration of the opera of more than two hours.

We had worked on the visual production in narrow collaboration with Hollywood director Robert Dornhelm and stage designer Amra Bergman for several months. The result was a harmonious fusion of the classic opera production with the innovative multimedia staging.
